boxed in by asphalt but thriving, my first set of planters

when i lived and studio-ed at BOX 13 ArtSpace, I needed green. So harvesting from houston’s industrial waste stream via the Houston Reuse Warehouse, I secured rough hewn  oak that in its previous life worked as holders in a pipe yard. the pipe yard no longer wanted this crop of oak and did not want to send it to the landfill!

so beautiful! and then i repurposed them into my first set of planters circa 2010.

lined them with rubber which i have a plethora of, added drainage system, and then some sweet compost/garden soil.

five years later, handed off to a knew asphalt gardening crew, they still thrive.
